23 May 2005 : Mac in a Box

Guess what arrived at my front door at half nine this morning!

I had just been checking out Apple’s order tracking when the doorbell went. Bloody hell! It was my Mac Mini – the order tracking said it was still at Leeds airport. So, much a boyish unpacking commenced and a photo opportunity was taken.

Mac boxes: Mac Mini, wireless keyboard and wireless mouse.

I decided to go wireless. I had considered getting a DVI KVM switch to make it easy for me to use the Mac with my existing keyboard, mouse and beautiful new ViewSonic flat screen monitor, but having seen how much the switches cost, I settled for dual inputs on my monitor, stylish Mac keyboard and mouse and wirelessness.

The excitement hasn’t quite kicked in. I’ve been so busy so far this week and it’s likely to be the weekend before I get time to play. Hmmm, looking forward to getting some Tiger lovin’. Grrrr.

Welcome to Tiger, Mac OS X v10.4.

Anyway, Jo seems to have taken a liking to the new addition to the November 5th team… she says she’s going to take it to work with her.

The Mac Mini lunchbox.

So, does this officially make me a Web Design geek? I guess not – I don’t yet have an iBook that I can sit in hallways with.

The jealousy. Must contain the jealousy.

I can never keep track – is envy cool or square at the moment?

Damn, that’s lovely.

Tiger lovin’? Should I be worried?

And that’s not my lunch, silly, it’s yours! My thermos is purrrrple. I squashed lots of healthy food into that for you, like carrots and bananas, so enjoy!

Web Design Geek? Honey, I prefer to think of you as a Net Nerd. :P

You’ll just have to bring your whole wireless setup for sitting in hallways…

Yes, I see you are into designer Tupperware lunchboxes it’s even got an Apple on it so know you’re supposed to fill it with vegetables maybe you could also store coffee in there?

@ Alan Graham: Save the envy for when I buy a “proper” Mac. I bet by the time I get enough spare money to actually get one the G7 will be out!

@ Matthew Pennell: Funny you should say that, I was thinking of bringing the Mini to @media and finding a monitor to borrow. Or maybe not…

@ Robert Wellock: I’ve been meaning to get one of those tower cases with a built-in coffee machine. :)

I’ve been trying to figure out why my Mac won’t turn on. I discovered that it actially is a lunchbox and Jo has filled it with carrots and bananas… I’m now trying to find where she’s hidden my real Mac Mini.

In the meantime, I’ve fallen in love with the wireless mouse – except that it looks like a bar of soap.

So in other words you’ll both fighting to take the soap bar and test its waterproof capabilities.

*whispers* Shh! Don’t tell Jon! I hid the soap in the bathroom! He’ll never look there, and, if he does, he’ll never find it among all the bars of soap!

To Jon: You can’t even turn on a computer? Did you do a striptease?

LOL @ the image of .j stripping to a Mac mini… wow, that memory’s gonna stick :-)

@Jon, looks rather nice, kicks my Shuttle into a cocked hat. I want, I want. Next on my list (after wife’s glasses – 400, ouch) is a digital camera (finally).

mmm…. stripjay

To Vigo: You really DO NOT want to see. I’ve had nightmares! It’s when he tries to encourage the Mac mini to join in that’s the worst part… *shudder*

Uh-oh, I’m in trouble… (follow this link to find out why…)

@ vigo: I so need to get myself a new digital camera!

@ fairyJo: Mac minis will only strip for an Apple technician. There’s no point in trying to encourage it. And stop putting my wireless mouse in the bathroom!

Ooooh. Pretty. I have geek envy.

That said, if I’m ever going to go really properly go over to the mac side, I want a shiny silver sit-in-a-webgeek-conference-hallway powerbook like my flatmate has.

It’s very lovely, and doesn’t burn your legs when you actually use it on your lap, which is, y’know, an advantage.
